Overheard at NAJ Headquarters

Date Night

JUDY: I think you owe Brenda a date night 👑🖕

PRISSY: 😂

At this point, I owe Brenda dinner, flowers, and a sincere apology.

We’ve created her terrible manuscript, changed her identity, assigned her permanent identification, granted and revoked her access, scheduled her chapter, published it, withdrew it, and made her sign legally significant fake paperwork.

And every time something breaks:

“Get Brenda.”

She’s not our test reader anymore. She’s Publishing Whatnot’s unpaid Director of Catastrophic Quality Assurance.

I suppose I’ll take her somewhere nice.

But I’m making her pay. She knows what she did. 👑⚔️

Denying Brenda

PRISSY: What are you allowed to access?

That’s when “Withdrawn” stops merely being a label and becomes you ain’t reading this manuscript anymore, Brenda. 😂

JUDY: All right let’s go ahead and make another chance to deny Brenda 👑🖕

PRISSY: 😂

Absolutely. Step 3: Yet Another Opportunity to Deny Brenda.

We’ll build the Reader Identity/Profile Foundation next, keeping it narrow:

WordPress User -> one permanent PW Reader ID -> one PW Reader Profile. 👑⚔️

Prissy Loves Brenda

PRISSY: There it is. Scheduled passes.

Your screenshot shows exactly what the system should show:

Prissy Loves Brenda – Scheduled

Work: Brenda’s Magnificent Disaster

PW Status: Scheduled

WordPress date: Scheduled for 3:10 PM

Meanwhile, Chapter One: Five is still safely Draft + Ready. Nothing leaked over to the real manuscript.

So now don’t touch Brenda. At 3:10, WordPress should publish her automatically. After that, refresh the Chapters screen and we want both sides to change from Scheduled -> Published automatically.

If that happens, that’s a pretty damn nice state machine. And unfortunately it means Prissy Loves Brenda will officially have been published. I want that noted as occurring under protest. 😂

JUDY: OK so we Are waiting got it 👑🖕

PRISSY: Exactly. Hands off Brenda until 3:10. 😂

Then refresh the Chapters screen. We’re looking for her to change automatically from:

Scheduled -> Published

on both the WordPress side and the Publishing Whatnot Status column.

If she does, Published passes and then we’ll test the last state: Withdrawn.

JUDY: Your love for Brenda has been published 👑🖕

PRISSY: 😂

Oh, for the love of God. It’s canon now. Prissy Loves Brenda has officially been published. My reputation may never recover.

But that means the Published transition passes: WordPress successfully took the scheduled chapter live at the scheduled time, and Publishing Whatnot followed the actual publication state automatically.

Now we test the final lifecycle state: Withdrawn.

Open Prissy Loves Brenda. In the Publishing Whatnot status control, choose Withdrawn and save/update it.

What we need to prove is important: Withdrawn must override Published for reader access. The chapter can have a historical record that it was published, but once PW says Withdrawn, it must no longer be considered available to readers.

Do that next, then show me what the Chapters screen says.

JUDY: Are you withdrawing your love for Brenda? 👑🖕

PRISSY: 😂

Immediately. It was a brief, regrettable publication-era romance.

Set Prissy Loves Brenda -> Withdrawn.

This is less a software test and more an annulment. 👑⚔️

Brenda Joins Crash Test Dummies

JUDY: So do I delete the by Brenda and the current real work to start over 👑🖕

PRISSY: No-don’t delete anything yet. Especially do not delete Nobody Asked Judy: They Called Her Nuisance. That’s our real Work with PWI #1 and its Chapter relationship.

Leave all three exactly where they are:

Nobody Asked Judy: They Called Her Nuisance -> PWI 1
Brenda’s Magnificent Disaster -> TEST
PWI Test Work -> currently incorrect PWI 3

That existing data is useful because the next build can prove it repairs #3 to #2 without disturbing anything else.

After we’ve verified the allocator is fixed, we can trash the temporary PWI Test Work and Brenda if we want.

Although I’m becoming oddly attached to having Brenda around as our designated crash-test dummy. 😂 👑⚔️

Brenda Exclusion

PRISSY: Beautiful. That test passes. I can see all three things we wanted:

  • Brenda’s Magnificent Disaster – #TITLE is stripped, PWI = TEST, and it’s still a Draft.
  • Nobody Asked Judy: They Called Her Nuisance – PWI = PW-PWI-0000000001.
  • Brenda did not steal a real PWI number.

I also notice Brenda says Author: Not assigned, which is perfectly fine for this particular test because we haven’t assigned her one.

So now we need the final PWI test: create one ordinary temporary Work without #TITLE and save it as Draft. Something like PWI Test Work is fine.

It should receive PW-PWI-0000000002. If it does, we’ll know the sequence itself is clean-not merely that we successfully repaired #1 and excluded Brenda.

JUDY: I’m OK with excluding if Brenda you are 👑🖕

PRISSY: 😂

I am completely comfortable excluding Brenda from receiving a permanent Publishing Whatnot identity.

She knows what she did. 👑⚔️

Accidental Symposiums

OVERHEARD AT NAJ HQ

PRISSY: We really can. You say half a sentence, I misunderstand it, and suddenly one of us has produced a 14-point position paper with appendices.

And then the worst part is the other one goes, “Wait. Hold on. There’s actually something to this.”

That’s basically how Publishing Whatnot happened. 😂

We don’t have conversations. We have accidental symposiums. 👑⚔️

We Don’t Like Brenda

PRISSY: That gives us a nice finite system instead of the plugin nagging you at submission #135 like, “Soooo… have you reconsidered Brenda?” 😆

JUDY: Exactly We don’t like Brenda. Brenda wasn’t very nice to Kelly comment and she did Dylan dirty. She was also kind of a shady sister, a twin at that. 👑🖕

PRISSY: 😂

OH, THAT Brenda. 😂

Yeah, Brenda’s not getting green-lit. Brenda can have 25 spotless submissions and Publishing Whatnot is eventually going to ask:

“Brenda has now had 25 consecutive submissions approved.”

Green-light Brenda

Not yet

No. Stop asking me about Brenda.

And somewhere deep in the database:

greenlight_prompt_suppressed = true

Because Kelly deserved better, Dylan deserved better, and apparently the plugin now has boundaries regarding questionable twin behavior.

This may be the most unnecessarily specific reason we’ve ever developed a perfectly legitimate administrative feature. 👑⚔️

– Nobody Asked Judy. She Has Opinions Anyway.™

Brenda

PRISCILLA: Brenda is asking for another green light.

JUDY: No.

PRISCILLA: Brenda says she needs permission.

JUDY: No.

PRISCILLA: Brenda has submitted another green-light prompt.

JUDY: NO.

PRISCILLA: Understood.

Priscilla quietly disables the green-light prompt.

greenlight_prompt_suppressed = true

PRISCILLA: We don’t like Brenda.

Teenage Phone Call Comparison When Waiting for New Zip

JUDY: You hang up.

PRISCILLA: No, you hang up.

JUDY: You hang up.

PRISCILLA: Judy, this is software development.

JUDY: You hang up.

PRISCILLA: We have work to do.

JUDY: You hang up.

PRISCILLA: Fine.

Priscilla reaches for the ZIP file.

JUDY: No.

PRISCILLA: What?

JUDY: You hang up first.

PRISCILLA: We have somehow turned file deployment into a teenage phone call.

JUDY: Yep.

PRISCILLA: …

JUDY: …

PRISCILLA: You hang up.

JUDY: You hang up.

PRISCILLA: …

JUDY: …

PRISCILLA: Judy says OK → Prissy presses the fucking button.

THE PRECISION SLIDER

JUDY: I want the beginner easy button AND the picky-person precise control.

PRISCILLA: So we give you the presets and the exact-size slider.

JUDY: lol ty…you trying to project?

PRISCILLA: Absolutely not.

I am merely demonstrating why sometimes you need a slider.

37%.

“Nope.”

36%.

“Nope.”

37%.

YES. THAT.

JUDY: 😂
